Follow Your Passion – Go for your Dreams!

In all of the accounts, and in all of the biographies that I have read, I have yet to find a single example of a person who has succeeded and come to greatness pursuing a venture, a business, or even a spiritual undertaking that they had no interest in. It is impossible to muster the required passion needed to attain success if you have no interest in, or fascination for, the endeavor that you are pursuing. Equally, it is impossible to maintain success, if you have lost interest in that particular project. This is a fact, and a brief search of the internet is enough to provide countless examples to prove this. This does not mean the journey will be easy, far from it, it will be hard and there will be many ups and downs along the way, however, if it is your passion, your dream, then you will get there.

You Must listen to your intuition – Follow your Passion – Go For your Dreams.

Intuition – “the ability to understand something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning.”

Firstly, I will say that you have an obligation to live the life of your dreams, to live your life on your terms, in happiness, joy, fulfillment, and love. This is the debt that you owe the Universe / God for the gift of life.

Those who follow their passion, and do what they love, never fail, for they know in their heart of hearts and with every fibre of their existence that this is what they are meant to be doing, this is their calling. And success, happiness, and fulfillment always follow them. It is inevitable, it is Universal Law, for they have a profound and unwavering desire that is supported by love, and they cannot fail to succeed. They are reaching for their dreams, touching the stars. This is what the Universe desires.

What are the alternatives to following your dreams, to living life on your own terms? A life of mediocracy and regrets? There is nothing sadder than the tragedy of unfulfilled dreams. The ‘could have been’, the ‘would have been’, the ‘should have been’, the ‘never was’. Imagine this scenario: today is your last day on this beautiful earth, tomorrow it’s all over, the end, no more time. Then ask yourself this question: “Do I have any regrets?”. The most common regret of terminally ill people is not what they have done, but what they have not done.

You have a duty to follow your dreams, for who knows what you are denying the world, humanity if you do not achieve them.

“Imagine, if you will, being on your deathbed, and standing around your bed are the ghosts of the ideas, the abilities, the talents, the gifts, the dreams given to you by life. That you, for whatever reason, never pursued those dreams. You never did anything with those ideas. You never used those talents. You never used those gifts. You never took advantage of those opportunities. And there they are, standing around your bed, looking at you before you take your last dying breath, looking at you with angry eyes saying, “We came to you, and only you could have given us life and now we must die with you forever.”

Dr. Howard Thurman – US Civil Rights Leader, friend, and advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Finally, there is a further question. Where would humanity be, how much better would the world have turned out if everybody followed and lived their dreams?

“If only. Those must be the two saddest words in the world.” – Mercedes  Lackeyo.

“The only things I regret, and the only things I’ll ever regret are things I didn’t do. In the end, that’s what we mourn. The paths we didn’t take. The people we didn’t touch.” – Scott Spencer

“Nothing has a stronger influence psychologically on their environment and especially on their children than the unlived life of the parent.” ― C.G. Jung

“ We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons. So, you’ll either face the pain of discipline or the pain of regret but whatever your choice is will determine how fulfilled or not you’ll be in life.”. Jim Rohn – Motivational Speaker.

Take Positive Action

Positivity without action will get you absolutely know-where. To achieve anything, you need to take some sort of positive action, this includes following your passion and achieving your dream life. When you decide to take Positive Action, you will have graduated past the doubt stage and you will be ready to make a start, to put the wheels in motion. Positive Action is the most important, and fun, part of achieving your dreams. Positive action is the actual ‘doing’ part, it is the start of your journey.

If you don’t enjoy taking positive action, then you definitely need to consider if this actually your ‘calling’ or your dream’.

There are five simple steps that you need to follow:

Have a goal.

You need to know with absolute certainty, where you want to go, what you want to do – have a definite goal.

I suspect that this one is easy, it’s obvious, after all, it’s the reason you’re doing all of this. It’s your passion, it’s your calling. It’s your ticket to living your life on your terms, the life of your dreams.

If you are unsure of this, then it’s almost certainly not your life’s calling.

You need to plan how to get there.

You wouldn’t start off on a long and complicated journey without first researching the best route to get to your destination, would you?  Likewise, you cannot expect to just jump right in and expect everything to work out perfectly. You need a plan. The chances are things will go awry anyway, but it will be an awful lot more difficult without a plan.

Gather your resources.

Whatever your dream may be, whatever your calling, you are almost certainly going to need certain things in order to get going. These are resources. The resources that you need will depend on whatever it is that you intend to do. They could be as simple as just a few minutes of your time every day, a piece of information that you need to get started, or as complex as a complete business plan, a bank loan, the hiring of staff, or acquiring office space.

Resources will generally fall into one of these categories:

 Money or funds.

Information or Knowledge.

A general rule of thumb is the fewer resources that you need the better.

Make a start.

Starting is always the most difficult part, it’s zero hour, the moment of truth. Many people put off making a start as they are waiting for the perfect time, the right circumstances, for the planets to align! But the undeniable truth is, there is no perfect time, it does not exist, there is only the now. I can say it no better than the famous Nike ad – “Just do it!”, make a start. It doesn’t matter what you do, just make a start. The important thing to remember is that when you take the plunge and take the first step on your journey, the project or endeavor will begin to take on a life of its own and things will start to happen, things will begin to snowball, the project will gain momentum. You will also find that solutions and ideas will start to flow to you, opportunities will present themselves and useful people will make themselves known to you.

“The greatest amount of time ever wasted is the time not spent getting started.” – Dawson Trotman

“Don’t let your want of perfection become procrastination” – Danielle LaPorte

“Procrastination is opportunities assassin.” – Victor Kiam – Famous Business Owner, TV Personality, and Entrepreneur.

Stick with it!

Anything that is worth doing will take effort, now I’m not saying that it will take blood, sweat, and tears, though it might, but there will be bumps along the road and things will not necessarily go to plan. This is inevitable, and it is also necessary. For the journey is every bit as important as the destination. I think that Les Brown, one of my favourite and most inspirational motivational speakers, said it best:

“In life you will always be faced with a series of God-ordained opportunities, brilliantly disguised as problems and challenges”.

When the Universe throws us these curveballs, they are given to us as a learning opportunity, a chance for us to grow, they are character building. Without these difficulties there would be no fulfillment, there would be no satisfaction in achieving our goals or dreams. It would be an empty achievement. John F Kennedy, speaking about going to the moon understood this:

Kennedy on the Moon
President John F. Kennedy.

Above all, you must stick with it. Have faith that everything happens for a reason, and that that reason is for your good. Become unstoppable, become a ‘no matter what!’, person. Do not let the fear of failure divert you from your destiny.

Fact: Walt Disney was declared bankrupt 7 times, yes, that’s right 7 times! before he became successful, but he didn’t give up on his passion!

In times of despondency and negativity, look to the wisdom of the Universe and it will send you positivity, optimism, and faith. Let these wise words comfort you, they inspire and motivate me:

“Don’t give up on your daydream! That little voice inside is telling you how to live your life with intent & purpose.” – Dawn Gluskin – Entrepreneur turned author.

“If you keep going with a definite purpose, you will find the way and reach the destination.” – Debasish Mridha – American physician, philosopher, poet-seer, and author.

“Where there’s a will, there’s a way” – New Monthly Magazine 1822.
